As recently announced by The Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking (QS WUR) by Subject in 2020, 12 fields of study at the University of Indonesia (UI) from 4 broad subject areas have successfully entered the international rankings.

One of them is Geography. This study program under the auspices of FMIPA UI is listed in the Natural Sciences group ranking at 151-200.

Head of the Department of Geography Dr. Supriatna, M.T. assessed that this proud achievement was the result of hard work and support from many parties, especially teaching staff, researchers, and students.

He also explained that to achieve this ranking success, Geography FMIPA UI has implemented many programs that are the quality standards used by QS WUR 2020, including the reputation of Human Resources (HR), H-Index Citation (a benchmark for productivity and impact of work published by a scientist), quality of academic work, and academic reputation.

Starting in 2018, young geography lecturers at FMIPA UI are encouraged to provide support to senior lecturers by being involved in national and international research grants.

Through these researches, accompanied by the productivity of scientific journals of lecturers and researchers, until 2019, Geography FMIPA UI produced up to 30 publications per year.

Geography FMIPA UI also opens doors to collaboration, both research collaboration and academic and student activity programs with several universities both domestically and abroad.

Domestic research collaboration is carried out by Geography FMIPA UI by collaborating with several well-known universities, including ITB, UGM, IPB, and UNIBRAW. While research collaboration with foreign universities includes the University of Leiden, University of Birmingham, Lund University Sweden, and NUFFIC NESO.

In this research collaboration, Dr. Supriatna M.T. claims that several teaching staff of the Department of Geography, FMIPA UI were directly involved in helping to complete research projects conducted by foreign researchers in Indonesia. They helped, among other things, in conducting surveys.

"Many colleagues from abroad are conducting research in Indonesia. They asked for help and cooperation with our staff to participate in the research writing collaboration survey, so that the names of Geography FMIPA UI appeared in the research paper," said Supriatna to the FMIPA UI Public Relations team.

In addition to research collaboration, collaboration in academic and student activities with foreign universities is also being pursued by Geography FMIPA UI, some of which are student mobility, student exchange, and joint field schools with Sidney University, University of Malaya, and University Putra Malaysia.

Regarding the quality of academic work and academic reputation, journals produced by lecturers and researchers of Geography FMIPA UI are written and published in English, involving editors from various countries such as Japan, Australia, UK and even Africa.

Not only that, every year Geography FMIPA UI holds an international conference, since 2017. The international conference is an effort to produce an international journal, with additional criteria indexed by the reputable international database Scopus by inviting speakers from various continents, such as Europe, Asia and Australia.

This activity is also to improve the Citation H-Index of lecturers and researchers, as well as students' ability to produce publications.
