The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of Indonesia (UI) built a Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory building to improve the quality of research towards becoming a World Class Research Faculty.
"The construction of the building will take eight months," said Dean of FMIPA Dr rer nat Abdul Haris on the sidelines of the Groundbreaking event for the FMIPA UI-Pertamina Multidisciplinary Laboratory Building in Depok, Wednesday.
Haris said that funding for the construction of the multidisciplinary research lab building came from UI at 65 percent and the remaining 35 percent from PT Pertamina (Persero) CSR funds.
He explained that the building will consist of 8 floors with each floor area of 1,000 square meters with the ground floor designated as an auditorium and the 7 floors above as a multidisciplinary research lab and the forerunner to the development of Science Park at UI.
This building is intended to house the advanced laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UI, Indonesia's leading science faculty. Preparations for the construction of this multidisciplinary lab took approximately 1.5 years, involving experts and the UI campus environmental development team.
This 8-story building will be allocated for several main laboratories such as the Advanced Computing Lab, Computational and Experimental Nano Science Lab, Geoscience Lab, Geographic Information System (GIS)/ Remote Sensing (RS) Lab, Tropical Biodiversity Lab, and Integrated Research Center.
Meanwhile, UI Chancellor Muhammad Anis said that the construction of this multidisciplinary research lab building is expected to encourage FMIPA to be more optimal in developing its research activities.
"Of course, this research can produce innovative works that are useful for national development," he said.
