Friday, March 18, 2022, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) held a Graduation for graduates of the Odd Semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Year. As in the previous semester, this semester's graduation ceremony must still be held virtually.
To the graduates, Dean of FMIPA UI Dede Djuhana, Ph. D. said, “The pandemic has forced us to adapt quickly to the new situation that we know as the new normal era. But what is certain is that all of that is not a reason for us to stop the process. But rather to strengthen ourselves as human beings, so that we understand the situation better, challenge ourselves in learning new things, and also think more critically and systematically.”
The implementation of face-to-face or virtual graduation, continued Dean Dede, is nothing more than a ceremony. However, the most important thing is that the real essence of graduation is not reduced, namely entering a new stage, either to take the next level of education or enter the world of careers, and actualize oneself through work and innovation.
"The most important thing is how in the future, all of you are able to contribute to the nation and state through innovation and various works amidst the changing world," added Dean Dede.
Also attending the event which was broadcast live on the FMIPA UI Youtube channel was Barry Mikhael Cavin, S.Si., M.Sc.. He is an alumnus of the 2010 Mathematics undergraduate study program who currently serves as Head of content, head of educator training at PT Zenius Education, and also Co-founder of Ngobrol Matematika.
Barry's presence is to provide enthusiasm and motivation to graduates in facing challenges in the industrial world 4.0. especially during a pandemic like now.
In his welcoming speech, Barry explained that there are at least four important points that FMIPA UI alumni need to have. The four points are the ability to know yourself, realize your vision seriously, become an adaptive person, and have resilient abilities.
According to him, these four things are quite relevant to face the challenges of the world of work and industry in the current pandemic era. Especially in welcoming the demographic bonus of 2045.
"I think with these 4 points, we as FMIPA UI can be the vanguard to become promoters of a more resilient, more rational, and more scientific Indonesian society, which can produce public decisions based on strict science, and have strong philosophical arguments, and equally strong mathematical logic." Said the man who has had a five-year career in the education sector.
"We as the generation that will lead, can ensure that Indonesia 2045 becoming a developed country can truly be achieved and not just as a mere jargon, but it can truly be observed that Indonesian society at the grassroots level has a truly advanced, rational, scientific mentality, and can work together with each other." Barry added closing his speech.
This semester, FMIPA UI produced 316 graduates. Consisting of 273 undergraduate graduates, 70 master's graduates, and 9 Doctorates. Of all the graduates, 74 of them succeeded in achieving Cumlaude predicate.
