Through the Community Service Program, the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UI, in collaboration with the FMIPA UI Administration Center and the FMIPA UI Chemistry Department Student Association (HMD), produced and distributed free hand sanitizer to the general public around the Depok area, West Java.

The distribution was carried out by the HMD Chemistry FMIPA UI on Friday (20/3). The target locations for the distribution of 408 bottles of 100 ml hand sanitizer included the UI Student Dormitory, the Yellow Bus Stop, Boulevard Park, the Ojek Mitra Campus Base of the Faculty of Engineering, the Dompet Dhuafa Foundation and the Al-Abqo Ziyadah Foundation for Orphans and the Poor.

Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (UI), Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng., stated that this initiative was motivated by the scarcity of hand sanitizers on the market during the current COVID-19 pandemic, even though they are available, they are quite expensive.

This community service program, he continued, is also one of the services of FMIPA UI in implementing the knowledge of its academic community, accompanied by the moral responsibility of the knowledge, so that it can encourage the role of the FMIPA UI academic community, both students and researchers, to contribute to helping solve the nation's problems.

"This program is a preventive measure that we are taking, considering that until now hand sanitizer is still rare in the market, so we encourage the FMIPA UI community to take a role in helping the community by applying the knowledge they already have," said Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng.

Head of the Chemistry Department, Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan, explained that this community service program received funding support from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) alumni.

Production and distribution are currently ongoing, subject to stock availability and a production target of 300 liters. Of this target, only 200 liters have been produced and distributed.

The production target, he continued, is to expand the distribution reach, especially to hospitals and other health service facilities (Fasyankes) around the city of Depok.

"There's still more (production and distribution) to be done, depending on the stock availability of 300 liters. Currently, we've only produced 200 liters. This production and distribution isn't just for the general public; we're also focusing on hospitals and community health centers," he added to the FMIPA UI public relations team.

The hospitals targeted for distribution include Jakarta Islamic Hospital and Bunda Menteng Hospital.

Regarding the materials and formulas used, he ensured that the Chemistry Department of FMIPA UI had followed the guidelines standardized by the World Health Organization (WHO), paying attention to health and environmental aspects.
