The University of Indonesia (UI) basketball team consisting of 15 students from various faculties won the Runner Up title at the City Series or regional level of the LA Campus League (LACL), the largest basketball league competition between universities in Indonesia, on March 9-14, 2020, at The Hawk Arena, BSD, Tangerang.
The City Series is a series of activities and developments from previous years' LACL programs, so this year's city series is the first city series in LACL.
The purpose of this city series was to attract more participants (teams) by increasing the number of cities or regions compared to previous years. Finally, in 2020, the Campus League went national.
The UI team is dominated by six students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). The rest are students from the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Law Faculty, and Vocational Program.
This was stated by one of the team members, Athallah Ghiffary Nasution, who is a student at the Chemistry Department of FMIPA UI.
Athallah explained to the FMIPA UI public relations team that he and his teammates had two months to prepare before the competition. During those two months, they practiced competing against non-teammates (sparring), with matches that mimicked the real competition.
"Preparation takes approximately two months, including training and sparring with other teams," said Athallah.
Athallah's hard work with the team in this city series was rewarded with 5 million rupiah.
