JAKARTA – Minister of Defense Ryamizard Ryacudu received an audience with the University of Indonesia (UI) academic community led directly by UI Chancellor Muhammad Anis, at the Ministry of Defense Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (21/3/2018).

In this audience, the UI Chancellor expressed his gratitude for the reception by the Minister of Defense along with the ranks of officials within the Ministry of Defense.

According to him, this is an honor for the entire UI academic community.

He said that UI wants to build cooperation and synergy with the Ministry of Defense in supporting the development of the domestic defense industry, which he believes is part of the concept of national defense.

UI offers cooperation in developing the defense industry through a multidisciplinary approach, so that the targets of defense industry development can be reviewed from various aspects, including economic, sociological, engineering and other aspects in a comprehensive manner.

UI desire to strengthen cooperation and synergy with the Ministry of Defense is based on the fact that UI also has a grand strategy, one of which is to build strategic partners in order to actively participate in building the nation with a multidisciplinary approach.

"Many UI deans are present here to demonstrate our commitment to solving problems that we can work on together for the benefit of the nation from a multidisciplinary approach," he said.

In response to the matter, the Minister of Defense welcomed the initiative and expressed his hope that cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and the University of Indonesia (UI) would be realized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two parties within the framework of developing the domestic defense industry.

“The Ministry of Defense, representing the government, carries out the development of the defense industry. Gentlemen who possess expertise can certainly contribute,” the Minister added.

The Minister of Defense stated that the defense industry plays an important role: first, in strengthening national defense, and second, in supporting and driving economic growth.

As is the case with strong countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, much of their economies are supported by the defense industry.

“By being able to produce defense equipment independently, the nation will have prestige. And secondly, our economy will be supported by the defense industry,” said the Minister of Defense.

Accompanying the Minister of Defense were the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense, the Rector of the Indonesian Defense University (Unhan), the Head of the KKIP Implementation Team, several officials within the Ministry of Defense, as well as the presidents directors of state-owned defense industries (BUMNIS), namely PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI), PT Pindad, PT PAL Indonesia, and PT Len. Meanwhile, from the UI delegation, the deans of each faculty at the University of Indonesia were present.
