In an effort to enhance the academic capabilities and scientific insight of students in the fields of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Directorate of Student Affairs under the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemristekdikti), is once again organizing the 2018 National Olympiad of Mathematics and Natural Sciences for Higher Education (ON MIPA-PT).
Today and tomorrow (March 21–22), a total of 28 students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), will take part in the regional-level selection of ON MIPA-PT 2018 at UHAMKA Campus, East Jakarta. They are accompanied by Dr. Tito Latif Indra as Student Affairs Manager and Dr. Retno Lestari, a biology lecturer at FMIPA UI.
Over the course of the two days, the students will compete alongside ON MIPA-PT 2018 participants from across Indonesia to demonstrate their academic abilities in the fundamental disciplines of Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
The regional-level selection constitutes the second stage of the competition and is conducted simultaneously by the Private Higher Education Coordination Body (Kopertis) across 14 regions. FMIPA UI is under the coordination of Kopertis Region III (Greater Jakarta and Banten).
Previously, FMIPA UI students participated in the first-stage selection held by the University of Indonesia from March 6–9, 2018. They competed intensively at the departmental level within FMIPA UI. From this first-stage selection, seven top students from each discipline were selected.
As part of their preparation, on Tuesday (March 20), at Meeting Room A of the Dean’s Building, the Dean of FMIPA UI, Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, met with the students who would be participating in the second-stage selection of ON MIPA-PT 2018. He motivated and encouraged them to prepare thoroughly, remain optimistic, and continue praying. Haris expressed his confidence that his students would achieve outstanding results in the 2018 ON MIPA-PT competition.
Students who qualify as first and second place winners at the regional level will have the opportunity to advance to the national-level competition (third-stage selection). At this stage, participants will compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals, as well as the honourable mention title. honourable mention.
