FMIPA UI Receives Software Donation from Schlumberger

April 16, 2018

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Indonesia received a software donation from Schlumberger. This software will be used to support the development of scientific knowledge in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas.

The software donation was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding by UI Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.Met., and Schlumberger Managing Director Ronny Hendrawan on Friday (13/4) in Meeting Room A, UI Rectorate Building.

The Dean of FMIPA UI, Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, stated that this agreement represents FMIPA UI’s commitment to support its students—particularly Geophysics students—by providing opportunities to develop future oil and gas skills and professional expertise in Indonesia.

“This is excellent, because geoscience, particularly geophysics, plays a crucial role in ensuring energy security, especially in the search for hydrocarbon reservoirs beneath the surface,” he said.

The software to be utilized by FMIPA UI includes Petrel G&G, PetroMod Basin Modeling, Techlog Petrophysical Analysis, GeoX Prospect Analysis, OFM Production Analysis, and Reservoir Simulation (Petrel-Eclipse).

All of this software can be accessed at the Geology and Geophysics Computing Laboratory at FMIPA UI, Depok Campus.

Haris explained that this software donation by Schlumberger to FMIPA UI is not the first. He added that in 2012, Schlumberger had previously donated E&P (Exploration and Production) software.
