FMIPA UI Improves Education Quality Through AUN-QA Assessment

April 13, 2018

In accordance with the Vision and Mission of FMIPA UI to become a science faculty that is able to play a role at the global level to advance science and sustainable development, FMIPA UI should improve the quality of education in all its study programs.

One of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI's efforts to improve the quality of education is through the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) assessment process. This year, in the 110th AUN-QA, the FMIPA UI undergraduate mathematics study program was one of the programs assessed.

The FMIPA UI undergraduate mathematics study program is the second study program to be assessed by AUN, previously, the FMIPA UI undergraduate chemistry study program had carried out an AUN-QA assessment in 2012.

After the AUN FMIPA UI team completed all stages of the AUN assessment preparation for the undergraduate mathematics study program, the next stage was the visitation stage by the AUN QA assessor team.

Wednesday, (10/4) the AUN-QA assessor team, namely Prof. Dr. Suzeni Binti Abd Halim (University of Malaya) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vongdeuan OSAY (National University of Laos) were present to carry out a series of activities in this visitation.

The visit, which will run until April 12th, is a crucial stage in AUN's overall activities. During this stage, a series of interviews and observations of study program facilities will be conducted by the AUN Assessor Team.

The series of interviews involved the leaders of FMIPA UI (Dean, Vice Deans for Fields I and II, managers, and heads of UPMA), Head of the Mathematics Undergraduate Study Program, teaching staff, educational staff, active students, alumni, and employers.

Menurut Dr. rer. nat.

The AUN-QA assessors' certification results will be released in the next two to three months, on a scale of one to seven.

"I hope it's between 5 or even better, 6," said Haris.

Haris added that study programs that have been nationally accredited with an A grade are expected to soon undergo the AUN-QA assessment process. This will ensure that all study programs at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, are not only nationally accredited, but also regionally and internationally.

According to Haris, both certification and accreditation are part of efforts to improve the quality of education at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia. The results of these assessments will be used to determine aspects of educational quality that need to be developed.

Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit of FMIPA UI Dr. Ratna Yuniati said that the next study programs planned to undergo the AUN-QA assessment process are the undergraduate physics study program and the undergraduate biology study program in October.

In line with Haris, Ratna is optimistic that the FMIPA UI study programs, both those that have been assessed and those that will be assessed next October, will get satisfactory scores.

"The Chemistry undergraduate program has already achieved a score of 5. I'm optimistic that the Mathematics undergraduate program will achieve a score between 4.5 and 5. The same goes for the Physics and Biology undergraduate programs. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly and we'll get the best scores," said Ratna.

AUN is a university network organization in ASEAN whose main objective is to strengthen and expand cooperation in the field of higher education between ASEAN countries.

Indonesia has 4 universities that are members of AUN and have received assessment AUN-QA every year is UI, UGM, ITB, and UNAIR.

AUN Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) is one of the activities carried out by AUN which aims to guarantee the quality of study programs that are members of AUN.

AUN QA is a assessment, and not accreditation. Accreditation itself is part of QA. The assessment is carried out independently (self assessment) by writing SAR (Self-Assesment Report).
