Shinta Rahmayani A. (Mathematics 2014) and Hazrina Tiyas Nusa (Biology 2014) brought pride to FMIPA UI by winning First Place in the Mathematics Theory Category and First Place in the Biology Theory Category at the 2016 Pertamina Science Olympiad. They successfully took home scholarships from PT Pertamina (Persero) worth IDR 8,000,000.
The announcement of the winners was held during the award ceremony of the 2016 Pertamina Science Olympiad on Thursday (November 24, 2016) at the Wanita Patra Pertamina Building, Simprug, South Jakarta.
Previously, Shinta and Hazrina had outperformed more than 11,000 other participants in the theory category at the Provincial Selection round through a competitive selection system. Online Computer Based Test (CBT) which is a development of the selection system of previous years, namely the system Paper Based Test (PBT). They also compete to defeat other participants in the semifinals and grand finals of the National Final Selection through a written exam, as well as presenting their scientific papers in a quiz. open ended di hadapan para juri.
Besides Shinta and Hazrina, another Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences student, Vincent Jonathan (Chemistry 2015) who is a team in the Science Project Category won the Honorable Mention title. Vincent and other team members, namely Albertus Joseph (Chemical Engineering 2015), Karen Geraldine (Bioprocess Technology 2016) made a tool called "Plasma Hectrolysis" which is explained in a paper entitled METHANOL AND METHANE PRODUCTION FROM CO2 GAS-WASTE USING PLASMA ELECTROLYSIS. The Science Project Category team from UI succeeded in bringing home a prize in the form of a scholarship from PT Pertamina (Persero) amounting to IDR 5,000,000.
