To Realize Its Vision, UI Introduces “9 Values Into Action” to Be Practiced by All Members of the University

In line with its universal role as a home and center of knowledge, a model, and a moral authority for society, Universitas Indonesia (UI) upholds core values that must be respected and practiced by all its academic community members.

“All members of UI can apply these core values in their daily behavior at UI, so that no differences in perception arise across the various levels of the university. Everyone is a member of UI who embodies cultural values in their conduct,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA, Vice Rector for Human Resources and Collaboration, in his speech at the UI values socialization event titled…9 Values Into Actionwhich was held at the UI Hall, Depok Campus, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.

These values must eventually be practiced by all members of UI. This is aimed at realizing UI’s vision. The following are the core values: (Honesty) Having a straightforward and sincere character, speaking and acting truthfully, not lying, cheating, or engaging in corruption or fraud, accompanied by uprightness, wisdom, and noble character. Honesty applies to all academic and non-academic activities.

Keadilan (Just and Fair) Fairness: Providing equal opportunities and treatment to every member in carrying out their respective duties, including the development of academic and other activities, without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, marital status, age, disability, or sexual orientation.

Keterpercayaan (Trustworthiness) Integrity: Acting and behaving responsibly and reliably in carrying out mandates and performing every activity or duty.(Dignity) Dignity and/or Respect:(RespectDignity and/or Respect: Treating everyone with respect and humanity, adhering to moral norms, propriety, and appropriateness in all situations.

Tanggung jawab (AccountabilityResponsibility: Being accountable in carrying out one’s official and functional duties, while avoiding conflicts of interest.(conflict of interest)which could harm the interests of UI or other members of the UI community.

Kebersamaan (Togetherness) Cooperation and Tolerance: Upholding tolerance and a spirit of togetherness in carrying out the duties and responsibilities assigned to each UI member within their work environment.

Keterbukaan (Transparency) Openness: Openness of mind and attitude to genuinely listen to and consider the opinions of others; academic openness to critically accept all information and academic findings from others; and a willingness to share all knowledge and information with those entitled or concerned, except for confidential matters

Kebebasan akademik dan otonomi keilmuan (Academic Freedom dan Scientific Autonomy) Academic Freedom and Compliance to Laws: Upholding academic freedom, which includes the obligation to preserve and advance knowledge, and respecting freedom of the academic podium, meaning the freedom to express thoughts and opinions within UI and other academic forums. This also includes compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, carrying out all activities at UI in accordance with the rules in force.Compliance to Laws) Carrying out all activities within UI in accordance with all applicable regulations.
