Saturday (24/2) at the FMIPA UI multidisciplinary research laboratory building – PT. Pertamina (Persero), FMIPA UI held an education exhibition entitled FMIPA UI Open Days 2018. More than 200 visitors who were students of Elementary Schools (SD), Middle Schools (SMP), and High Schools (SMA) throughout Jabodetabek attended this event. They were accompanied by teachers and parents.
The promotional activity held for the fourth time at FMIPA UI aims to provide information about studying at FMIPA UI, including admission routes, study programs, academic and non-academic activities, scholarships, tuition fees and graduate prospects. In this activity, FMIPA UI also socializes the undergraduate actuarial science study program to students. The undergraduate actuarial science study program is the newest study program at FMIPA UI and registration has just opened this year.
To obtain this information, students and their companions visited the exhibition booths of each department at FMIPA UI, namely the Departments of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, and Geosciences (Geology & Geophysics).
In addition, students and mentors also had the opportunity to attend the presentation session. This presentation session was presented by each department of FMIPA UI by presenting the Head of the Department as the main speaker. There was also Fun Science from Rumah Science, which featured games and simple science experiments.
Not only that, to inspire students, an event session was also held talkshow by presenting several alumni of FMIPA UI as speakers, namely Nabil (Mathematics), Susilo Widodo (Physics), and M. Iqbal Syauqi (Chemistry). Both are the best graduates of FMIPA UI. Present as a moderator, namely Yudhistira Oktaviandie. The FMIPA UI Biology student who has the nickname Odie is the first winner of the 2017 FMIPA UI Main Achievement Student and the second winner of the National Achievement Student.
The speakers in the inspiring talk show said that there is no need to be afraid to study at FMIPA UI, there are many job opportunities for a career in the world of science. Because the departments included in the Faculty of MIPA UI are the basis of all knowledge and many professions require an expert in a particular field. For example, according to Nabil, the profession of an analyst from the Mathematics or Statistics department is still very much needed, even the profession that is currently most sought after and needed in the financial industry is an actuary, namely an elite professional group in the field of financial risk. Given the number of experts in the actuarial field is still very rare in Indonesia, and at FMIPA UI itself, Actuarial Science is one of the newest undergraduate study programs. So that FMIPA UI graduates from the actuarial science undergraduate study program will later have a great opportunity to become an actuary.
