When we talk about occupations, professions such as doctors, notaries, pharmacists, or accountants are already widely recognized. However, when we mention the profession of an actuary, most people will ask: what is an actuary?
An actuary is a professional who is an expert in mathematics and statistics and applies these skills to solve real-world business problems, such as estimating financial risks in the insurance and financial industries. Actuaries are also a rare profession and are currently in high demand in the insurance and financial sectors. Internationally, the actuarial profession is highly valued and, according to surveys, consistently ranks among the top five professions with the highest remuneration.

Since its launch in August last year, the new study program at FMIPA UI, the S1 Actuarial Science Program, has been continuously introduced to the public, particularly to high school students, given that Actuarial Science and the actuarial profession are still unfamiliar to many of them.
As part of efforts to socialize the S1 Actuarial Science Program and in welcoming the 2018/2019 academic calendar, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI participated in the “Indonesia International Education & Training Expo (IIETE).” This is the largest education exhibition in Indonesia, showcasing leading universities and institutions both domestically and internationally, including the University of Indonesia. The major event was held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) over four days, concluding on Sunday (February 25).

At the event, which was attended by more than 30,000 visitors, FMIPA UI introduced the S1 Actuarial Science Program to attendees, most of whom were high school students with an interest in science.
In addition to introducing its new study program, FMIPA UI also provided information to visitors about admission pathways, tuition fees, as well as the courses and learning methods they would experience once accepted as FMIPA UI students.
