UI Partners with Schlumberger in Utilizing Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Software Technology

April 13, 2018

University of Indonesia (UI) establish cooperation with PT. Schlumberger Geophysics Nusantara (Schlumberger Indonesia) in the field of scientific development and practical studies on the process of oil and gas exploration and production. This cooperation was marked by the signing of a Joint Memorandum of Understanding carried out by Rektor UI Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.Met and Managing Director Schlumberger Indonesia Ronny Hendrawan on Friday (13/4) at the UI Depok campus. The signing was also attended by the Dean of FMIPA Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris and the Dean of FT Dr. Ir. Hendri D.S. Budiono, M.Eng.

Through this collaboration, Schlumberger Indonesia will donate software (software) which can support the lecture activities of UI academicians, especially students of the Geoscience Study Program (Geology & Geophysics) and the Masters of Geophysics and Geography Study Program from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI as well as the Chemistry Study Program and Mechanical Engineering Study Program from the Faculty of Engineering UI.

The software that will be utilized by UI in implementing courses at FMIPA UI are Petrel G&G, PetroMod Basin Modeling, Techlog Petrophysical Analysis, GeoX Propect Analysis, OFM Production Analysis, and Reservoir Simulation (Petrel-Eclipse) – which can be accessed at the Geology and Geophysics Computation Lab, FMIPA UI, Depok campus. Meanwhile, the software to be utilized in implementing courses at the Faculty of Engineering UI is OFM Production Analysis, Reservoir Simulation (Petrel-Eclipse), Drillbench, OLGA, and PIPESIM.

In his speech, Prof. Anis conveyed, "UI appreciates the collaboration that can be established between universities and industry, in this case Schlumberger Indonesia. Through software donations, UI students can enjoy an academic atmosphere with the latest and high-tech facilities and obtain practical studies in the process of oil and gas exploration and production. This also further strengthens UI towards the best research university in Southeast Asia."

Furthermore, Ronny Hendrawan said, “Schlumberger Indonesia has carried out various collaborations with UI as one of the best state universities in Indonesia. Every year we recruit from UI continuously and there have been many alumni from UI who have become professionals at Schlumberger, especially graduates from FTUI and FMIPA UI. This time we are expanding the scope of cooperation in the form of software technology donations which are expected to support student lecture activities in terms of providing practical studies related to processing, interpretation, modeling and simulation of oil and gas reservoirs. It is hoped that through this collaboration, Schlumberger Indonesia will be able to contribute to increasing the competency level of UI graduates to be superior and ready to contribute to development.”
