FMIPA UI TEAM Wins 1st Place in GEOSAC 2021 National Scientific Paper Competition

The University of Indonesia team consisting of two FMIPA UI students, namely Muhammad Attorik Falensky (Geography 2017) and Pina Maulidina Hidayat (Geography 2018) won 1st place in the national scientific paper competition in the context of the GEOSAC (ASEAN) celebration. Geography Smart Competition) 2021 organized by the Indonesian Education University. It was announced online on February 25, 2021.

Their motivation in participating in the prestigious competition at the university level is to develop creative and solution-oriented ideas through scientifically written ideas in accordance with the theme of GEOSAC 2021, namely "The Strategic Role of Education as an Effort to Utilize the Demographic Bonus to Prepare a Superior Generation in Welcoming the Golden Indonesia 2045".

Focusing on the big theme of GEOSAC 2021, the UI Team presented a written work entitled "The Role of the Sungai Inspirasi (Science) Education Community in the Progress of Youth Education in Sungai Penuh City and Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province".

Through their writings, both of them explained about the Sungai Inspirasi community which is a forum for students and university students to develop their academic and non-academic potential. This community aims to build the next generation of the nation from the city of Sungai Penuh/Kerinci Regency who are high achieving, broad-minded, qualified and inspiring and become one of the Agent of Change Bangsa  Indonesia.

So that from these objectives, qualitative research can be carried out on how the community can achieve its objectives, the method used is through interviews or deep sharing with members of the community so that complete information can be obtained regarding the Sungai Inspirasi community.

To the FMIPA UI public relations team, Pina as a team member explained that the idea put forward by her team was based on their concern as FMIPA UI students in responding to the unequal distribution of educational facilities in Indonesia.

"We, together with friends from the region, finally initiated the formation of the Sungai Inspirasi (SAINS) organization which focuses on improving the quality of education in Sungai Penuh and Kerinci, Jambi Province. Alhamdulillah, after 1.5 years of being established as an organization, SAINS has been able to deliver Sungai Penuh Kerinci students in various national level competitions such as KSN and KOPSI and has succeeded in guiding its students to various top universities such as UI, ITB, UNDIP and UNAND," said Pina.

To achieve the best results, the UI team studied the materials and theories used, especially related to education in Indonesia. Both also conducted qualitative research by interviewing sources such as the general chairman of the SAINS community, vice chairman, and founder. So that the results of the interview can answer all research questions and achieve the team's research objectives.

"Interviews with sources were also conducted online via Google Meet. The research location survey was conducted by Kak Fadel because the object of our research, namely the 'Sungai Inspirasi Education Community', is located in Sungai Penuh City," added Pina.

Through her team's achievements, Pina hopes that she and her fellow students can continue to contribute and dedicate themselves to their hometown in Sungai Penuh-Kerinci as SAINS becomes more well-known, while also motivating other fellow students to jointly contribute more to improving the quality of education in their respective hometowns.

Participants of LKTIN GEOSAC 2021 were selected starting from the abstract submission stage, then full paper submission until they passed to the final stage. Participants who passed to the final stage of LKTIN were 13 teams and each team consisted of two people. Finalists will present all their scientific works online through video conference in the final stage. The assessment was carried out by 3 judges who were lecturers from the Department of Geography Education FPIPS UPI
