FMIPA UI Environmental Expert Dr. Ir. Tarsoen Waryono, M.Sc. Died of Age

Dr. Ir. Tarsoen Waryono, M.Sc. (Lecturer in the Department of Geography, FMIPA UI) has passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the age of 70.

The extended family of FMIPA UI expresses its condolences for the passing of the deceased. May he be given the best place by His side, and the family left behind be given fortitude.

Dr. Ir. Tarsoen Waryono, M.Sc. is an environmental expert from FMIPA UI who was born in Cilacap, June 12, 1952. He is an urban forest architect who on various occasions has expressed his concerns about the decline in the quality of the environment in Jakarta.

He began his career as a civil servant at a branch office of the Forestry Service in East Kalimantan. After eight years in the forests of Kalimantan, he then received a mandate to Jakarta as Head of the Eastern Forest Planning Section at the Department of Forestry (1976-1985).

In his work experience at UI, he also served as Head of the Watershed Management Center, University of Indonesia, and Implementer of the UI Depok Campus Urban Forest Development Program.

Dr. Ir. Tarsoen is also active as chairman of various environmental forums. Among them are the DKI Jakarta Provincial Urban Forest Communication Forum, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Watershed Forum, and the Jakarta National Kalpataru Family Forum.

Pioneering and designing urban forest development is not easy. It takes a long time, great energy, and an unyielding spirit.

For his services to the environment, he was awarded the Kalpataru award in the environmental mentor category in 2022, 2004, 2005, and 2016.
