Arrizqy Nadya Khairunissa, a 2019 undergraduate student in Geography, FMIPA UI, won first place in the National Essay Competition for high school and college students held online by the BEM Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning (FTSP) Trisakti University on March 16 - April 9, 2021. Nadya ensured that she won the title after beating out more than 200 participants who registered for the competition entitled “Innovation on Creativity for Environment 2021” the.
Of the four themes offered, Nadya chose one of them, namely good water sanitation. She then developed the theme into a written work entitled Utilization of Household Wastewater as a Strategic Step to Realize Goal 6 of SDGs in Indonesia.
He said the background of this idea was starting from his awareness of the benefits of water which is so important as one of the sources of needs for all living things on this Earth. Especially during this pandemic, the need for clean water has increased sharply.
In the process of compiling her essay, Nadya conducted research from accurate data that she collected. As a result, the data showed that the percentage of household wastewater was the highest compared to other types of wastewater, but its concentration level was lower than factory waste.
Referring to the data and research results, according to Nadya, this household wastewater has great potential to be utilized and reprocessed as an effort to increase clean water sources sustainably. Although she did not specifically write down the realization of this utilization, Nadya still gave an example of the utilization of household wastewater that she initiated, namely by using extensive technology, namely artificial wetland technology. Regarding the method and selection of technology used, Nadya said it was adjusted to the conditions of each land.
"Simply put, the way this system works is by collecting wastewater from households in one channel that will be collected in one tank, then filtration is carried out to separate the water and the dirt it contains," Nadya explained.
In an interview with the FMIPA UI Public Relations Team, Nadya explained that her motivation for taking part in the essay competition was to develop herself and skill that she has outside of the academic world. However, Nadya also admitted that there were certain challenges that had to be overcome during this competition.
"There are definitely challenges. One of them is about time management to write the essay itself, because this is also at the same time as lectures, sometimes the assignments pile up. But to (overcome the challenges), I usually steal time when weekend "If you want to write an essay, do it when you don't have any college assignments," said Nadya with a smile.
Closing the interview session, Nadya expressed her hope that she could continue to innovate and contribute to solving the problems raised in a competition she participated in. In addition, she also hopes that other FMIPA UI students can be proactive in providing their creative ideas in responding to existing problems or issues.
