Visit of Geography Students of FMIPA UI to the Naval Technology College

Students of the Department of Geography, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) conducted a visit and comparative study with the Jakarta Naval Technology College, on March 8, 2023. This activity is part of the collaboration between the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Naval Technology College (STTAL) which aims to exchange information and knowledge to research collaboration between the two institutions.
The visit and excursion activities of students from the Department of Geography, FMIPA UI were opened with remarks by the Commander of the Naval College, First Admiral Dr. Mukhlis, S.T., M.M., CHRMP., CACA., CRMP. online. The Commander of STTAL in his remarks conveyed his welcome for the arrival of students from the Department of Geography, FMIPA UI and the hope for further collaboration between STTAL and the Department of Geography, FMIPA UI. The activity was then continued with remarks by Dr.Eng. Masita Dwi Mandini Manessa as a representative of the Department of Geography, FMIPA UI.

The visit and comparative study of students of the Geography Department, FMIPA UI was divided into two sessions, namely a public lecture and a tour of the marine laboratory. The public lecture session was delivered by Kpt. I Wayan Sumardana, M.Sc. with basic hydrographic material. The public lecture provided included basic hydrographic material, the process of hydrographic survey activities and survey tools used. The activity was continued with a discussion and question and answer session by students from both the Naval College and Geography, FMIPA UI. Through the question and answer session and discussion held, it was seen that the Geography students of FMIPA UI were enthusiastic about the material provided.

In the second session, students of the Geography Department, FMIPA UI, conducted a tour of the Naval College (STTAL) hydrographic laboratory. Students were divided into 3 large groups, each accompanied by a lecturer and teaching assistant. Some of the tools demonstrated and shown were Echo Sounder Single Beam and Multi Beam, Currentmeter, and Magnetometer. In this session, students were also shown the process of processing measurement data using Echo Sounder Single Beam and Multi Beam.
Also present at the visit and comparative study were representatives of lecturers and students from STTAL, namely the Head of the Masters (S2) Oceanography Study Program, Lieutenant Colonel Laut (KH) Johar Setiayadi, S.T, M.T., Head of the Bachelor's (S1) Hydrology Study Program, Lieutenant Colonel (KH) Bambang Supartono M.Si., Head of the D3 Hydro Oceanography Study Program, Major Laut (KH) Endro Sigit Kurniawan, S.T., M.T., and Prof. Dr-Ing. Widodo S. Pranowo (STTAL Lecturer) and STTAL undergraduate students. Also present from the Department of Geography, FMIPA UI were lecturers Revi Hernina, S.SI., M.T., Tjiong Giok Pin, M.Si., and teaching assistants.
