FMIPA UI Wins First Place in Badminton Competition for UI's 73rd Anniversary

February 16, 2023

The contingent of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) successfully won the 1st place title in the badminton team competition after defeating the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FIB UI) in the final match. The competition was held by UI in the context of UI's 73rd Dies Natalis.

The final match between FMIPA and FIB took place at the UI Gymnasium, Depok, on Wednesday afternoon (February 15, 2023). There were 3 doubles matches in each match. This match applies a knockout system, so that the losing team/squad cannot proceed to the next round, and for each match the principle of "The Best of Three Games" applies.

The match opened with the men's doubles match. The FMIPA men's doubles pair, Rachmat Hanggoro and Sumardi, were ahead in the first set, but unfortunately both of them had to accept the score deficit in the second and third sets.

FMIPA's deficit in the men's doubles match was then responded to decisively by the women's doubles pair Annisa Nurul Fitri and Nur Intan Pratiwi who then won with two sets at once over the FIB women's doubles, namely 21-15 and 21-12. In that round the score of the match between the two faculties was balanced at 1-1. The victory of the FMIPA women's doubles also became a ticket to the next match for the FMIPA mixed doubles pair to continue the struggle in the deciding round.

Not wanting to waste the opportunity, the FMIPA UI mixed doubles pair, namely Sabrina Salwa Anandita (Geography 2021) and Rustam, managed to conquer the FIB UI men's doubles pair with two sets at once, namely 21-10 and 21-18. This score brought FMIPA UI out as champion 1 with a total score of 2-1 over FIB.

Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Sc., Vice Dean of Resources, Ventures, and General Administration of FMIPA UI who was present at the match location to the FMIPA UI public relations team said that his presence and that of his colleagues in the faculty was to fully support his contingent in the final moment. He appreciated the struggle of the contingent consisting of educational staff and students.

"I know very well that they are training seriously and intensely, so they must be fully supported and encouraged by colleagues in the faculty," said Dr. Tito.
He added that FMIPA UI facilitates academicians and its citizens who have talents and hobbies in badminton, by providing two badminton court areas on the fourth floor of the FMIPA UI central administration building.

The facility is currently well used by the academic community and FMIPA UI residents with a routine practice schedule every Tuesday and Friday afternoon. According to him, the residents and academic community of FMIPA UI who like to play badminton are quite a lot. So it is not surprising that they are quite ready for the match.

"We at FMIPA UI do indeed practice badminton quite intensively every Tuesday and Friday afternoon, even though we are not preparing for a competition, we usually still practice regularly, or just for regular exercise, so maybe this routine is what makes the players more prepared," he added.

For this victory, the FMIPA UI badminton contingent will receive an award and prize worth Rp10,000,000, - which will be given symbolically on February 22, 2023 at the peak of the 73rd UI Dies Natalis event.
