FMIPA UI Supports Cibedug Village Residents to Create a Healthy Environment and Literacy Culture Through MIPA Green Village 9

A total of 80 students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) who are members of the community service team entitled MIPA Green Village (MGV) 9, were present in Cibedug Village, Ciawi District, Bogor Regency, West Java. There, they held community service activities that focused on sanitation and literacy aspects for residents.

The team's activities under the guidance of Dr. Dewi Susiloningtyas, S.Si., M.Si., who is a Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Student Affairs Manager of FMIPA UI took place on January 6-7, 2024 and January 25 - February 3, 2024.

The Vice Dean of Resources, Ventures, and General Administration of FMIPA UI, Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., in his remarks said "The activities we are carrying out are an implementation of the values ​​of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Through this activity, FMIPA UI is directly present in the midst of the community to help the community in overcoming environmental problems."

Dr. Dewi in her speech said, "The academic community of FMIPA UI continues to strive to increase awareness and social concern for the community, especially in underdeveloped villages. We, both lecturers and students, also want to build a collaborative spirit with the community to provide positive social and environmental impacts, in order to realize sustainable development."

Before holding their action in Cibedug village, the MGV 9 team led by Lutfan Zaidan Akbar had conducted a survey and identification with the assistance of village government employees and the local community.

"Based on the survey results, it was found that there were several problems in the village. The problem that is of concern to us is sanitation, such as the distribution of clean water that is not evenly distributed to all village communities, the low literacy culture of children from PAUD to junior high school levels, including the improvement of the park in the SDN 02 Cibedug area which has been neglected," said Lutfan.

Furthermore, the team made a reservoir as access to clean water, optimized the facilities of the Cibedug Village library by adding library inventory. The inventory is in the form of bookshelves and carpets. The team also improved the park at SDN 02 Cibedug.

One of the main projects in the MIPA Green Village 9 action is to build a reservoir at the Ciliang spring. This reservoir was created as a utilization of the spring so that the distribution of clean water is evenly distributed to all levels of village society.

The construction of the Ciliang spring reservoir began with spreading hoses, conducting a trial of the alkon machine, building the reservoir foundation, installing pipes to the reservoir, to completing the reservoir and installing taps on the reservoir. With the completion of this project, now the people of Cibedug village can enjoy clean water more easily.

The next program, the team conducted reforestation in the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park Area. This activity is an activity of planting endemic plant seedlings, namely sengon seedlings in the Forest Area. This activity is also a greeting to prevent landslides in Cibedug village.

Next, the team optimized the Cibedug Village library facilities, in order to improve the literacy culture among children in Cibedug Village. This optimization includes improving the library, adding book assets, and stationery through donations from the MIPA Green Village 9 Grand Opening Activity.

Meanwhile, for the improvement of the garden at SDN 02 Cibedug. The team invited students to make plant pots from used goods and decorate the school's plants. This is to increase their awareness of the importance of utilizing used goods that can be reused and to introduce students to the importance of the presence of plants in the school environment.

To increase children's interest in learning, MIPA Green Village 9 also held learning activities while in Cibedug village. The material provided was to get to know musical instruments, especially the angklung which is a typical musical instrument from West Java, and learn how to play the instrument. In addition, they were also taught to read, write, count (calistung) and mathematics, as well as conduct science experiments. Science experiments carried out with students there such as the mechanism of a volcanic eruption, introducing how water flows from the roots to the leaves (plant transportation) and changes in the state of objects from liquid, solid, and gas.

The MGV team also held Sharing Session for teachers of SDN 02 Cibedug, with Adriana Amalia, M.Psi. as a speaker. The teachers were given materials about maintaining the mental health of teachers as educators, as well as how to manage stress in carrying out their duties.

At the end of the MIPA Green Village 9 activity, Fun Games with the residents of Cibedug Village, as well as a tumpeng competition as a moment to strengthen the ties between the committee and the villagers.

MIPA Green Village (MGV) is a work program of the Social and Environmental Department of BEM FMIPA UI since 2016, which aims to increase awareness and social concern of FMIPA UI residents towards underdeveloped villages, as well as being a participatory forum in carrying out community service activities as a manifestation of the Tri Dharma values ​​of Higher Education.
