Students of the Geography Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), again carried out Field Work Lecture (KKL) activities held in Parakansalak District, Sukabumi Regency, on Thursday (26/5/2022). This KKL is referred to as the 3rd KKL implemented for undergraduate geography study program students of the 2019 intake.
Previously, on May 23, 2022, a group of 22 students with 22 research themes led directly by Dr. Supriatna, M.T. as the supervisor and Head of the Geography Department, FMIPA UI, was immediately warmly welcomed by the Head of Parakasalak District, H. Royani.
KKL is a compulsory course for students of the Geography Department, FMIPA UI, one of which is for collecting primary data through interviews and field validation. This activity was carried out well and still complies with the Covid-19 health protocol.
Dr. Supriatna, M.T. as the head of the Geography Department of FMIPA UI and also the supervisor in this activity, said that this field work lecture 3 discusses research themes related to natural phenomena and the relationship between population activities and their environment.
"In some places there is a probability that natural factors can provide obstacles for residents, but in other places natural factors are actually supporting factors for population activities," said Dr. Supriatna.
According to him, there is also a probability of changes in land use or cover over the years or due to changes in human activities. "In addition, natural phenomena to government policies also contribute to changes in the physical environment," said the Geographic Information System expert.
This field work lecture will be held from Monday to Friday (27/5/2022). According to him, the targets of this field work lecture program include the Parakansalak District community as stakeholders, the Parakansalak District government as development planners, students as implementers of field work activities and lecturers as implementers and supervisors of activities..
"The research method in this field work lecture, students use several research methods. The research methods used are, field observation, mapping, literature review, in-depth interviews, statistical calculations, and analysis using remote sensing," he added.
He hopes that this field work lecture activity will produce research that can be beneficial for the surrounding community and the government in Parakansalak District. "Hopefully, this activity can produce significant results for the local environment," said the man born in Sukabumi.
On May 25, 2022, students presented the results of their studies in front of the Sub-district Head and his staff. The results of the students' research include landslide prone areas, changes in land use, potential and impacts of geothermal activities, tourism, socio-economic communities including MSMEs.
"The study was analyzed using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology and remote sensing, producing GIS-based digital maps with various themes," he said closing the interview.
