Two teams of students from the Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, consisting of two people in each team achieved achievements in the national level mathematics competition, namely the XXVIII Mathematics Competition and Seminar (LSM) competition held by Yogyakarta State University on March 7, 2020, in Yogyakarta.
The first team was David Setiawan (Mathematics 2017) and Kelvin Tenata (Actuarial Science 2018) who managed to win 2nd place. Meanwhile, the second team consisting of Aji Luhur (Mathematics 2016) and Andry Wijaya (Mathematics 2017) managed to win 3rd place.
The competition began with a preliminary round held on February 22, 2020. The preliminary round was held in 12 regions across Indonesia. A total of 149 teams participated in the preliminary round.
The theme brought by the committee of the LSM UNY XXVIII UNY is quite interesting, namely TRANSFORMERS. However, of course the transformers in question are not the American science fiction film, but rather an abbreviation of Transformation with Mathematics for the Future of ScienceDavid admitted that he really did not expect to win second place in this competition.
"We really didn't expect it, because we only managed 2.5/5 in the final. So we thought we'd win fifth place. But thank God we won second place. We didn't expect it, but we're very grateful," said David.
In line with David, Andry also said that he did not expect to be able to bring home this achievement because there was no special preparation.
"I didn't expect it, because I just enjoy participating in competitions that focus purely on mathematics, and so I can travel. There wasn't any special preparation, just... review "Just prepare the material 1-2 days before the competition," said Andry.
