July 31, 2018

The UI contingent, represented by Rio Fandi Dianco, a Statistics student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI, won a silver medal at the 25th International Mathematics Competition, held from July 22-28 at the American University Bulgaria (AUBG) in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.

The international mathematics competition was attended by approximately 351 participants from 50 countries.

Rio's achievement was certainly appreciated by the FMIPA UI academic community. Dr. Djoko Triyono, Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs at FMIPA UI, expressed his pride, even though Rio did not have the opportunity to bring home gold.

"Hopefully, next year I can bring home a gold medal," he added.

He also hoped Rio's achievement would motivate FMIPA UI students to be more enthusiastic about learning and actively participate in various academic competitions.

The Indonesian students selected for this event are Mathematics Olympiad Champions, specifically those who have competed in Olympiads at the university, regional, and national levels.c

The IMC competition in Bulgaria is open to university students aged 23 and up. The questions cover algebra, analysis, geometry, and combinatorics.
