Steven Fernaldy Tanno, a 2020 Actuarial Science undergraduate student from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), won a silver medal (Second Prize) in the 2022 International Mathematics Competition (IMC) which took place virtually on August 1-7, 2022 in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.
This was announced on the official website of the International Mathematics Competition for University Students 2022.
With this achievement, Steven also added to the long list of medals won by 11 other contingents from Indonesia.
12 (Twelve) Indonesian contingents under the auspices of the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbud Ristek RI) are members of the Indonesia Math Team and are the winners of the 2021 National Mathematics and Science Competition (KN MIPA) in the mathematics category.
Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (UI), Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., congratulated Steven and expressed his highest appreciation for his achievement. He hoped his student's accomplishments would motivate other students at the faculty. He advised his students to always be enthusiastic about learning and achieving success both on and off campus.
"We, both the leadership and the FMIPA UI community, are very proud and appreciate this achievement to the highest degree. We hope this achievement will motivate FMIPA UI students to study and excel, both on and off campus," said the Dean.
The International Mathematics Competition (IMC) is the most prestigious olympiad among mathematics enthusiasts. This year, IMC will be held for the 29th time, with 800 participants from 63 countries and 222 universities participating. The problems covered algebra, real and complex analysis, geometry, and combinatorics.
