Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) Holds Halal Bihalal Gathering, Dean: Challenges Ahead, Let's Be Enthusiastic to Improve Performance

Depok, Monday (June 17). The second week after office activities resumed, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, held a Halal Bihalal gathering at Building B, FMIPA UI, Depok, to commemorate Eid al-Fitr 1440 Hijri.

The event, which is an annual routine activity of FMIPA UI after the long Eid holiday, was attended by the Chair of the UI Academic Senate, Prof. Nachrowi D. Nachrowi, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., Dean of FMIPA UI and staff, lecturers, heads of departments and heads of study programs, chairs and members of the Council of Professors, Chairs and Members of the Faculty Academic Senate, Chair of ILUNI FMIPA UI, students and educational staff within the FMIPA UI environment, as well as partners of FMIPA UI.

The event opened with a recitation of the holy Quran by Ustadz Ahmad Yasin, followed by remarks by Dr. rer.nat. Abdul Haris, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UI, and a sermon by Ustadz Abdi Kurnia.

"Please accept my sincere apologies," said Haris, beginning his speech.

The apology was delivered on behalf of himself and the entire leadership of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UI. In his remarks, Haris encouraged the entire FMIPA UI family to continue fostering the spirit of improving performance.

According to him, this is very necessary as an effort to provide the best contribution of FMIPA UI to the University of Indonesia, considering that currently, UI as a leading university in Indonesia is facing many challenges, including competitiveness, qualifications and quality of teaching staff, and innovation.

"This is a great opportunity for us to work together to foster a spirit of further improvement in our performance going forward. The challenge facing UI, our beloved institution, is currently facing an era of increasingly fierce competition," said Haris.

Therefore, Haris continued, stakeholders within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UI must respond quickly and appropriately, particularly regarding the quality of the teaching staff. This will increase the competitiveness of FMIPA UI and UI against competitors and make them attractive to prospective students.

"The challenge is right before our eyes, and we must respond quickly to it. We must be ready to make significant changes or we will be left behind," he added.

"According to him, one of the main steps for FMIPA UI at this time is to increase the ratio of lecturers with doctoral degrees, for all study programs, so he also hopes that FMIPA UI educators who still have master's degrees will be enthusiastic about continuing their education to the doctoral level.

“In this event, Haris gave symbolic awards to the retired lecturers and employees of FMIPA UI whose terms of service ended last year and this year.

Haris also gave symbolic awards to his students from the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology departments who succeeded in becoming finalists and achieving achievements in the 2019 ON-MIPA PT event.

The Halal Bihalal (gathering) event was held in a friendly atmosphere. It concluded with handshakes, forgiveness, friendly exchanges, and a shared lunch.
