The University of Indonesia (UI) achieved recognition as an institution with an \u201cOutstanding Scientific & Technological Contribution to Social & Economic Development\u201d from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). This award is given to academic and research institutions considered committed to applying technology for the social and economic welfare of their countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The award was presented at the 15th Edition of the IDB Prizes for Science and Technology, held on Tuesday (May 16, 2017) at the Hilton Hotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. At the ceremony, UI was represented by its Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M.Met. UI received a prize of USD 100,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his speech, Anis stated that the prize would be used by UI to enhance innovation and the university\u2019s contributions to societal development. Also in attendance were Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris (Dean of FMIPA), Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA (Dean of FT), and Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah (Director of Research & Community Service).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The IDB is a multilateral development finance institution whose main mission is poverty alleviation for its member countries. One of IDB\u2019s efforts to reduce poverty is by encouraging innovation or creation from individuals or research institutions in its member countries, including Indonesia. Such innovations are expected to have a positive impact on development and the improvement of community welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The IDB Prize is one of IDB\u2019s initiatives to support innovations that benefit societal development. The IDB Prize is divided into three categories: women\u2019s contribution to development, science and technology, and Islamic economics and finance.
