{"id":6855,"date":"2023-12-18T07:26:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-18T07:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/?p=6855"},"modified":"2026-01-08T07:28:52","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T07:28:52","slug":"rancang-turbin-bertenaga-mini-hydro-mahasiswa-fmipa-ui-jadi-solution-provider-terpilih-pada-asia-pacific-solution-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/en\/rancang-turbin-bertenaga-mini-hydro-mahasiswa-fmipa-ui-jadi-solution-provider-terpilih-pada-asia-pacific-solution-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Students Design Mini-Hydro Turbines, Become Solution Providers Selected at the Asia Pacific Solution Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an innovative step that illustrates the great potential of youth in sustainable technology, Adnan Hasyim Wibowo, a student of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) Geophysics Study Program, designed an innovative water screw turbine that is able to utilize water energy efficiently: PARCIS (<em>Portable Archimedes Screw<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This innovation in the small-scale hydroelectric power generation model has led to it achieving the title&nbsp;<em>solution provider&nbsp;<\/em>youngest in the prestigious forum&nbsp;<em>Asia Pacific Solution Forum (APSF) 2023.&nbsp;<\/em>Through his innovation, Hasyim is considered to have brought new hope in the field of renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PARCIS, menjadi&nbsp;<em>selected solution initiative&nbsp;<\/em>which is innovative and practical, while demonstrating FMIPA UI's commitment to addressing sustainable development issues, particularly in the aspect of clean and renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PARCIS is claimed to be the answer to the challenge of utilizing hydropower in areas with poorly managed water resources. Inspired by the darkness that shrouds areas around rivers and drains at night, Adnan and his team came up with the idea of transforming&nbsp;<em>\u2018waste energy<\/em>this is a source of sustainable lighting and energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together with his team, namely Ruth Emmanuella Princsillia (Geophysics 2020), and Jawi Kuncoro Jaqti (Geophysics 2021), Adnan initially submitted PARCIS to participate in the competition, and has received recognition by winning first place, in&nbsp;<em>Product Design Competition<\/em>&nbsp;at the SOBAT Competition held by PT. United Tractor in August 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"PARCIS was initially just an idea for a competition, which, thank God, we managed to win,\" said Adnan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"However, we were motivated to develop this idea further, not just as an academic project, but also as a real-world solution that could have a positive impact on society,\" he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/APSF-430-2048x1366-1-1024x683-1-768x512-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6867\" srcset=\"https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/APSF-430-2048x1366-1-1024x683-1-768x512-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/APSF-430-2048x1366-1-1024x683-1-768x512-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/APSF-430-2048x1366-1-1024x683-1-768x512-1-18x12.jpg 18w, https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/APSF-430-2048x1366-1-1024x683-1-768x512-1-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adnan explained that PARCIS's advantages include its minimal water requirement. Furthermore, its mini-hydro power makes it portable and easy to move when needed. Another advantage is its low cost and environmental friendliness, as installation doesn't require any damage to the natural environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"The components are a frame, turbine, powerhouse, and power distribution cables. Water enters the frame and drives the turbine, generating electricity, which is stored in the powerhouse and then distributed to loads like streetlights, via cables connected to the powerhouse,\" Adnan explained how his innovation works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (UI), Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., praised Adnan and his team's achievements. He stated that their achievements represent the faculty's capacity as an institution that plays an active role in generating innovative solutions to global problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the birth of PARCIS, they have taken the initiative in developing technology that is not only&nbsp;<em>possible&nbsp;<\/em>conceptually, but also has social and&nbsp;<em>feasible&nbsp;<\/em>to be implemented,\" said Prof. Dede.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Themed activities&nbsp;<em>Accelerating Local Action for the SDGs in the Asia-Pacific<\/em>\" this, organized by&nbsp;<em>Sustainable Development Solutions Network&nbsp;<\/em>(SDSN) at Sunway Resort Hotel, Malaysia, on November 1-2, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every&nbsp;<em>solution initiative&nbsp;<\/em>The projects presented in this forum are selected from a range of practical ideas and projects involving new technologies, methods, business models, institutional mechanisms, educational models, policy instruments, or a combination of these that can accelerate progress towards sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/APSF-271-2048x1366-1-1024x683-1-768x512-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6869\" srcset=\"https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/APSF-271-2048x1366-1-1024x683-1-768x512-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/APSF-271-2048x1366-1-1024x683-1-768x512-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/APSF-271-2048x1366-1-1024x683-1-768x512-1-18x12.jpg 18w, https:\/\/geografi.ui.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/APSF-271-2048x1366-1-1024x683-1-768x512-1-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same forum, Adnan shared the stage with other doctors and practitioners, presenting diverse ideas and solutions to a variety of global issues. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, from renewable energy to environmental initiatives, providing important insights into steps that can be taken to achieve sustainable development.&nbsp;<em>sustainable development goals (SDGs)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the session&nbsp;<em>feedback<\/em>received constructive feedback from distinguished panelists, including Prof. Woo Wing Thye, Vice President of SDSN Asia and Research Professor at Sunway University, and Tan Sri Sir Jeffrey Cheah, Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group. They provided in-depth insights into the applications and potential scalability of PARCIS, highlighting the importance of innovation in addressing renewable energy challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In session&nbsp;<em>talk show&nbsp;<\/em>which was held after the presentation from para&nbsp;<em>solution providers<\/em>, hosted by Shazana Mochtar, PARCIS received praise from the panelists and participants.
