On Saturday, November 13, 2021, the Geography Community Service Team of FMIPA UI, chaired by Dimas Setya Herdani R., carried out a flood mitigation outreach program at State Elementary School (SDN) 04, Pantai Bahagia Village, Muara Gembong District, Bekasi Regency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This activity, under the guidance of Dr. Retno Lestari, M. Si., a lecturer at the Department of Biology, also involved the community and representatives of the village as participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The geographical conditions of Pantai Bahagia Village, which is located near the Java Sea with a topography that is gentler than the sea, make it easier for sea water to enter the land when the water level rises. This is also exacerbated by the conversion of mangrove land and abrasion in this area, so that tidal floods often occur. In fact, before this activity was carried out, the village had been submerged in quite severe tidal floods. This is what motivated the FMIPA UI Geography community service team to go directly to the village<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Present as speakers at this activity, Alfiyyah Nurulhuda (Geography 2019), and Muhammad Said, SE., M.Si. Head of Prevention and Preparedness Division of BPBD Bekasi Regency. Both speakers delivered material about the theory of tidal flood disasters, the impacts caused, and mitigation that can be done by the local community to minimize casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding the theory of disasters and tidal flood disasters in general, Alfiyyah Nurulhuda said that Indonesia's tropical climate causes many droughts and floods. He also said that tidal floods occur due to the geographical conditions of the region, abrasion, and high rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"So, this plain is also split and then eroded by abrasion. Then, this tidal flood can also be caused by continuous rain,\" explained Alfiyyah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, the discussion regarding the impact of tidal flooding in Pantai Bahagia Village and mitigation that can be carried out by the community was explained by the Head of Prevention and Preparedness Division of the Bekasi Regency BPBD, Muhammad Said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"In fact, the residents of Pantai Bahagia Village are special because they choose to stay here and not move. Therefore, what needs to be improved is the handling and mitigation,\" said Said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Qurtubi as Secretary of Pantai Bahagia Village said, \"Fortunately, our activities are now dry. At that time a week ago, this place was submerged in water, starting from Friday until last Friday,\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team hopes that this activity can educate the people of Pantai Bahagia Village to better understand the things that can trigger tidal floods that often hit the area, as well as their mitigation. So that residents are more responsive and have preparedness for tidal flood disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
