On Friday (July 26th) in Sukajadi Village, Carita, Pandeglang, Banten, the UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Community Service Team, led by Ratna Yuniati, held a UI Cares Action program through the "Mangrove Planting Program on Tsunami-Critical Land." Twenty UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences students participated in the activity.
To make this activity a success, Ratna and her team, namely Retno Lestari, Rezky Aditiyo, Mufti Petala Patria, and Dimas Haryo Pradana, assisted by 2 assistants, collaborated with the Pandu Cendekia Foundation, UKM Pramuka UI, and GreenMetric UI, with the support of the Directorate of Research and Community Service, University of Indonesia (DRPM UI).
Ratna explained that the series of community service activities involving 90 village residents consisted of outreach and education regarding the benefits of mangroves, collectively encouraging mangrove maintenance programs, and creative economic programs based on the restoration of the estuary ecosystem.

Furthermore, the Biology Lecturer from FMIPA UI explained that this socialization and education activity was carried out to increase public awareness that mangrove plants have a strategic role for habitats and ecosystems.

Following outreach and education activities for villagers, the program continued with joint mangrove planting around the Sukajadi Village river estuary. The mangrove planting activities involved villagers and community leaders, which is expected to foster program sustainability.
