The FMIPA UI Community Service Team Provides Training for Fishermen's Wives on Depok Beach

July 29, 2019

On Saturday, July 28, 2019, the FMIPA UI Community Service Team, supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti), held an activity entitled Agent-Based Modeling Training for Marine Applications using the Anylogic modeling method. This community service activity was carried out conceptually. focus group discussion (FGD) by inviting more than 30 fishermen's wives at Depok Beach, Parangtritis, Yogyakarta.

The project, part of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education's Superior Research Program (PUPT), aims to determine the sustainability of fishing livelihoods across different seasons. Using the Anylogic modeling method, the fishermen's wives acted as agents and observers in the study.

The condition and quantity of fish caught as a livelihood for fishermen are highly dependent on the season, so the income value of each fisherman varies from time to time. Therefore, the use of the Anylogic model, according to Dr. Dewi Susiloningtyas, who is also the team leader, is to monitor and anticipate the conditions of the lean season at sea so that they can find other solutions as a source of income.

This allows fishermen's wives to contribute to the economy beyond their catch. In this training, the lecturers also taught several skills that could provide solutions, such as making crafts from beach waste or making typical Depok beach snacks.
