As preparation for the implementation of the ASEAN University Network–Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) assessment for the Undergraduate (S1) Mathematics Study Program of FMIPA UI, today (March 14), at Room 101, Building B, the Academic Quality Assurance Unit together with the leadership of the S1 Mathematics Study Program held a meeting with Mathematics undergraduate students, academic staff, and educational support staff from the Faculty and Department Administrative Center (PAF) to socialize the preparation for the AUN-QA assessment. This socialization event was also attended by the Dean of FMIPA UI and his leadership team.
During the session, Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, Dean of FMIPA UI, explained the importance of FMIPA UI undergoing the AUN-QA assessment. In line with FMIPA UI’s Vision and Mission to become a science faculty capable of playing a role at the global level in advancing science and sustainable development, FMIPA UI must obtain recognition both regionally and internationally.
“If we talk about global competition, inevitably we must carry out (the assessment) and pursue it. This means our FMIPA UI must be known andrecognize Regionally, Internationally” said Abdul Haris.
However, Haris continued, the success of the assessment cannot be achieved without cooperation from all related parties. Therefore, he instructed all stakeholders, especially those within the S1 Mathematics Study Program, to prepare academic staff, educational staff, and students for the assessment process.
The Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit of FMIPA UI, Dr. Ratna Yuniati, explained that the AUN-QA preparation team has currently completed approximately 85% of the preparation stages for the S1 Mathematics Study Program. The final stage is the site visit by the AUN-QA assessor team, which will take place on April 10–12, 2018.
This site visit is the most crucial stage of the entire AUN-QA preparation process, as it will involve a series of interviews and observations of the study program’s facilities conducted by the AUN-QA assessor team.
The interview sessions will involve FMIPA UI leadership (the Dean, Vice Deans for Academic Affairs and Resources, managers, and the Head of UPMA), the Head of the S1 Mathematics Study Program, academic staff, educational support staff, students, and alumni. These interviews aim to obtain comprehensive data on practices implemented by the S1 Mathematics Study Program of FMIPA UI across all stages of plan, do, check maupun action for all AUN-QA assessment criteria, namely: Expected Learning Outcomes, Programme Specification, Programme Structure and Content, Teaching and Learning Approach, Student Assessment, Academic Staff Quality, Support Staff Quality, Student Quality and Support, Facilities and Infrastructure, Quality Enhancement, Output.
Dra. Ariadne Laksmidevi, M.Eng., Ph.D., Deputy for Quality Assurance in Management, Human Resources, Facilities and Infrastructure, and Financing—who is also a lecturer in the Physics Department of FMIPA UI—explained that AUN is an independent international body that plays a role in assessing the quality of higher education. This body is not an accreditation agency, but rather encourages continuous quality improvement processes within higher education institutions as an effort to enhance or harmonize the quality standards of universities across ASEAN.
Regarding the benefits for higher education institutions that have obtained an ASEAN-level Institutional Assessment Certificate, Ariadne added that these include providing an objective overview of academic culture, relevance to the workforce, and study program facilities, serving as a bridge for study programs to reach the international level, and facilitating credit earning and credit transfer processes.
