On Friday (26/4/2019), in commemoration of Disaster Preparedness Day, which falls on April 26, FMIPA UI participated by holding an emergency response simulation for earthquake and fire disasters at the FMIPA UI Dean’s Office building.
This simulation was conducted following the call for simultaneous disaster drills at units and universities from the Head of the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB), with the aim of cultivating integrated, planned, and continuous exercises to enhance public awareness, vigilance, and preparedness toward a Disaster-Resilient Indonesia.
The activity, which involved leaders and administrative staff from several units of the FMIPA UI Faculty Administration Center, was led by Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng. (Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs II, FMIPA UI) along with the FMIPA UI K3L team as facilitators and the FMIPA UI security team.
After receiving a briefing, the residents and academic community of FMIPA UI who were directly involved carried out the simulation.
The Vice Dean for Resources, Facilities, and General Administration of FMIPA UI, Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng., explained that this simulation is an effort to familiarize the residents and academic community of FMIPA UI with the appropriate actions during a disaster, as well as to assess their level of preparedness in facing such emergencies.
Rokhmatuloh added that the sudden arrival of disasters often causes panic among those who experience them.
“This simulation is conducted to assess how prepared we are in the event of a disaster, particularly in the FMIPA building, whether it’s an earthquake or a fire,” added Rokhmatuloh.
The remote sensing expert, a graduate of Chiba University, Japan, also appreciated the enthusiasm of his staff in carrying out this simulation to help create an FMIPA UI that is safe and disaster-ready.
