Faza Muthmainnah, a student of FMIPA UI (Statistics 2020) together with 9 (nine) of her teammates from Indonesia and the Netherlands, successfully won the title 1st Winner Group Project Presentation in the international competition Asia Women SDGs Convention 2021 which was held virtually from April 17 to May 1, 2021.
Faza and her team won with their idea of an app to support women's movements around the world. The project focused on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 5, which is gender equality.
What Faza and his team did was conduct research from various literatures. Based on this research, they found data that there are only 25% of women in parliaments worldwide; only 28% of women occupy managerial position in a company; only 21 out of 190 countries have had a woman as their head of state, and 2 out of 3 women have experienced violence, either sexual or physical.
It was against this research background that the idea to develop an application to support the movement of women from all over the world emerged. She claims that her application has social features that involve influential women in the world.
"This application is a kind of internet application that contains political, economic, and other features where the content is in the form of female figures who are able to bring change to the world and also information that is expected to be able to make women aware of the importance of knowledge," said Faza.
Apart from that, said Faza, this application is also designed to make it easier for women to report acts of violence they experience to the responsible parties according to their location.
Even though he managed to become the first winner by eliminating 8 other groups (with a total of 75 delegates), Faza admitted that he also encountered a few challenges in this competition, one of which was the difference in time zones with his group mates which made it difficult for them to determine the time for discussion.
"Yes, because this is (done) online, so it was hampered in the discussion. Time zone "The time is also different, so that's what's a bit difficult to adjust. Determining the time for the discussion," Faza explained to the FMIPA UI Public Relations Team.
However, he felt very grateful, because this competitive experience could give him high self-confidence and add new relationships and insights.
“With this competition I have become more confidence, because when I presented yesterday, I was the presenter, so I represented my group. I think it was a very valuable experience, besides I was also able to make new friends and gain new insights," added Faza while closing his interview session with the FMIPA UI public relations team.
