The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) welcomed a delegation from the Hainan Geological Bureau on Thursday (11 December 2025) at the FMIPA UI Dean’s Meeting Room, Universitas Indonesia Depok Campus. The meeting marked an initial step in exploring research collaboration between the two institutions, as well as the signing of an Agreement of Implementation (AOI) that will serve as the foundation for future scientific collaboration.
During the meeting, both parties discussed opportunities for joint research in the field of geology, including studies on land displacement and disaster mitigation, protection of natural resource ecosystems, and the management of volcanic eruption risks—topics considered highly relevant to Indonesia’s geographical characteristics as part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., expressed his optimism regarding the collaboration. “We warmly welcome this partnership and hope it can be realized promptly. We see significant potential for collaboration between the two institutions, which we believe can develop into a long-term partnership,” he said.

From the Hainan Geological Bureau, Secretary Su Jinming emphasized the institution’s readiness to establish a strategic partnership. “Hainan Geological Bureau views FMIPA UI as a strong strategic partner in the field of geology. We are eager to learn together, as both Indonesia and Hainan possess vast geothermal resources and extensive marine areas,” he stated.
The Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of FMIPA UI, Prof. Anom Bowolaksono, Ph.D., added that the presence of the Master’s Program in Marine Science broadens the scope of joint research between the two institutions.
Meanwhile, the Manager of Internationalization and Global Rankings at FMIPA UI, Munawar Khalil, S.Si., M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D., stated that this collaboration opens opportunities for student exchange programs as well as the development of double degree and joint degree programs with universities in Hainan. “In the long term, FMIPA UI is ready to offer opportunities for student exchanges and to develop double degree and joint degree schemes with universities in Hainan,” he said.

The signing of the AOI reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to develop a range of collaborative programs, including staff and student exchanges, scientific field trips, and joint research initiatives. This collaboration is expected to strengthen academic networks, enhance research capacity, and generate innovations that support sustainable geological development. FMIPA UI also reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with other international partners that share a similar vision.
The event was attended by the leadership of FMIPA UI, including the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration, Prof. Dr. Ivandini Tribidasari Anggraningrum, S.Si., M.Si.; Manager of Cooperation, Ventures, and Alumni Relations, Dr. Lukmanda Evan Lubis, M.Si., F.Med.; Manager of Education, Rika Tri Yunarti, S.Si., M.Eng., Ph.D.; Manager of Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Dewi Susiloningtyas, S.Si., M.Si.; Head of the Geology Study Program, Reza Syahputra, Ph.D.; as well as faculty members of the Geology Study Program. Representing the Hainan Geological Bureau were Su Jinming, Yuan Xiangfeng, and Xu Guoqiang. Also in attendance were representatives from Hainan International Resources Group Co. Ltd., namely Chairman Fan Xiangrui and Assistant President Peng Cheng, along with interpreter Vera Cari, who facilitated the discussion.
