The badminton team of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), consisting of educational staff and students, won 2nd place in the 74th UI Dies Natalis team badminton competition. FMIPA UI was crowned as the 2nd winner after facing the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) UI in the final match held on Friday (16/2/2024), at the UI Gymnasium, Depok.
In this competition, the FMIPA UI team has competed four times, with the results of three wins and one loss. There are 3 doubles matches in each match. This match applies a knockout system, so that the losing team or squad cannot proceed to the next round, and for each match the principle of "The Best of Three Games" applies.
Although they did not succeed in winning the 1st place title like the previous year, the team still received appreciation from the leadership. Dean of FMIPA UI Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D. said that in competing the most important thing is to uphold sportsmanship, which is a noble value in sports. He is sure that the entire FMIPA UI team has implemented a sporty attitude in every competition, according to him that has made him very proud.
"What is certain is that we must prioritize sportsmanship. I am proud, the FMIPA UI team has been very sporty during the match," he said.
The Dean also expressed his appreciation to the FMIPA UI contingent, who had participated in enlivening UI's 74th anniversary, through other sports competitions, namely futsal, tug of war, table tennis, and walking.
"Congratulations to the winning teams. Those who didn't win need not be discouraged. Winning and losing are common. The important thing is to participate, foster camaraderie with your teammates, and strengthen friendships between faculties and other units," said Prof. Dede.
He also hopes that in the future all elements at FMIPA UI, including lecturers, educational staff, and students, will continue to work together in various activities, so that they can provide even more achievements for FMIPA UI.
The series of sports competitions will be held on February 6-16, 2024. The locations are at the UI Sports Facilities Building (SOR) for futsal, tug-of-war and table tennis competitions, the UI tennis court for tennis competitions, and the UI Gymnasium for badminton competitions.
All competition winners received symbolic awards at the peak celebration of UI's 74th Dies Natalis, at the UI Hall, Depok, on Wednesday (21/2/2024). In line with the theme of UI's Dies Natalis this year, namely "Continuously Building the Country", in the event UI also gave awards to Faculties, Schools, Vocational Education Programs, units within UI, to UI academics and residents who contributed to efforts to achieve the goal of Sustainable Indonesia.
