Monday, February 14, 2022. The Research Center for Materials Science Unit of the Institute of Applied Sciences (RCMS LST) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) together with the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) held an upskilling training program for Chemical Analysts with the KKNI Level 5 qualification level for workers in the chemical industry as a form of support to the government in producing superior, competency-based human resources in the industrial chemical sector.
This activity, which collaborated with the Industrial Chemistry Professional Certification Institute (LSP KI), was held offline in the Multidisciplinary Building Hall, FMIPA UI, UI Campus, Depok.
The training is an implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation signed by the Head of the Institute of Applied Sciences, FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Jatna Supriyatna, M.Sc. and the Chair of the Steering Committee of the Industrial Chemistry LSP, Dr. Mas Ayu Elita Hafizah, M.Sc., on the same day.
In the cooperation agreement, FMIPA UI and LSP KI agreed to carry out various joint activities, including the preparation of competency test materials in the field of Industrial Chemistry based on the relevant Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI), the implementation of work competency tests in the field of Industrial Chemistry, the design of various competency test materials in the field of Industrial Chemistry, and the development of a competency test implementation system based on ease and cost effective to capture the market.
Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Indonesia (UI), Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., welcomed the initiative. In his remarks, he stated that all departments under the Faculty have collaborated extensively with external parties, not only through the Tridharma (three pillars) activities but also through other activities, including certification training programs.
"Therefore, we are not closing ourselves off to the possibility of further collaboration with BPSDMI and LSP KI in the future, whether in relation to human resource capacity development or activities that require each party's facilities and capacity," said Dede.
This program, Dede continued, is in line with the FMIPA UI program in preparing competent graduates in industry by providing facilities and providing experts who can act as instructors.
"We at the university have even introduced a Diploma Supplement (SKPI) program for our newly graduated students to help them enter the workforce. With our competency-based curriculum, we also prepare prospective graduates with the competencies needed by users," he added.
On the same occasion, Training Cooperation Analyst Rosita Ayuni, representing the head of BPSDMI, explained that upskilling training is aimed at industrial workers to improve their technical skills at a higher level of expertise.
"This training is expected to provide workers with the necessary skills to advance their careers beyond their current positions in the industry," Rosita explained.
In line with Rosita, Mas Ayu Elita Hafizah said the purpose of this professional competency certification is to ensure a person's competency that has been obtained through learning, training or work experience where the policy of implementing competency certificates from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) in all sectors is mandated by Law No. 13 of 2003.
"The association's involvement in this matter, through the Indonesian Chemical Industry Federation (FIKI), has built a successful chain of relationships between all stakeholders, including users, regulators, and academics," he said.
Meanwhile, the Chair of LST, Prof. Dr. Jatna Supriatna, M.Sc., provides the broadest possible opportunities to anyone who wants to develop themselves.
"Because we have experts with diverse competencies, we can meet market needs, especially in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0," concluded Prof. Jatna.
This upskilling training program was held from February 14–17, 2022, involving 30 participants and two instructors, both academics and practitioners from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia. The training materials covered the Management and Monitoring System for Used Chemicals, Quality Management System Methodology in the Laboratory, and Conventional vs. Instrumental Quantitative Analysis.
This training activity aims to prepare training participants to undergo the competency test which will be held by LSP KI on February 18, 2022.
Also present at the event were Prof. Dr. Azwar Manaf, M.Met., Chair of RCMS LST, Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan, Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, and Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration.
