Thursday, (04/08/2016), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UI received a visit from the National Research and Development Institute (RIKEN) of Japan. The purpose of this visit was to introduce RIKEN and their research activities to the faculties at UI on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Indonesia, and to ask for support from RIKEN's own goal of expanding international collaboration in materials science. In addition, they also informed about the RIKEN Representative Office in Singapore as RIKEN's first overseas office that will coordinate research exchanges and collaborations between RIKEN and Southeast Asian countries. In Indonesia, RIKEN has established parternship with five leading universities including UI.
Representing RIKEN as delegates were Prof. Isao Watanabe, RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science Mr. Genichi Tuzawa, Director of the RIKEN Singapore Representative Office, and Mr. Takuo Ohata, Deputy Director of the RIKEN Singapore Representative Office. Meanwhile, the FMIPA UI representative is Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, Dekan FMIPA UI, Drs. On this occasion, RIKEN discussed further collaboration in materials science with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia. They also offer a program called the IPA (International Associate Program), where non-Japanese doctoral candidates attend graduate schools in Japan or abroad that participate in RIKEN's joint graduate program. IPAs conduct research at RIKEN under the supervision of RIKEN scientists to help them earn their degrees. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)This program has been running for 9 years and provides living expenses and housing assistance for 3 years.
RIKEN is Japan's largest comprehensive research institute renowned for its high-quality research across a wide range of disciplines. Founded in 1917 as a private research base in Tokyo, RIKEN has grown rapidly in size and scope, encompassing a network of world-class research centers and institutes throughout Japan.
