Dr. Anawati, an Inspirational Figure from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, Wins the 2019 Achmad Bakrie Award

Dr. Anawati, a Physics Lecturer at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, was named an inspirational figure and awarded the XVII Achmad Bakrie Award, which was held on Wednesday (14/8/2019) at the Djakarta Theatre Building, Thamrin, Central Jakarta.

Dr. Anawati received the award for her research on tubular anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) and her idea of utilizing local coating technology. Through this research, she helped the people of Sumbawa improve their water quality, which was almost entirely contaminated with heavy metals.

Dr. Anawati began her research career while pursuing her master's degree in Sweden, then continued her doctoral studies in Norway. After earning her doctorate in Norway, Dr. Anawati worked in Japan and the United States.

In Ohio, United States, and Japan, she received research projects for industry. With these resources, Dr. Anawati returned home to utilize her knowledge and experience. To advance her research, Dr. Anawati brought her topic to the Department of Physics, University of Indonesia.

In her acceptance speech, Dr. Anawati said that she founded the non-profit organization Sai, which in Sumbawa language means number one, Sumbawa Academia Institute.

Through the organization he founded, he carries out activities such as non-formal training and education for elementary and high school students, including science olympiad training, English language training, and scientific writing.

"To ensure the continuity of our activities in Sumbawa, we established a non-profit organization, the Sumbawa Academia Institute (Sai in Sumbawa means number one), which we conduct in many activities, including training and non-formal education for elementary and high school students, such as science olympiad training, English language training, and scientific writing," explained Dr. Anawati.

"The Head of the Undergraduate Physics Study Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) also revealed that science has been a field he has loved since childhood. It's also what led him to become a researcher and academic. He also shared his experiences studying in four developed countries that rely on human resource development.
