Friday, (30/11) the Student Executive Board (BEM) FMIPA UI held a UI Campus Tumbler Day event with the theme “ “Plastic Bottles, The Less The Better”.
From the outset, the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, has had the intention and commitment to promote environmental friendliness within the faculty, UI, and Indonesia. Engaging campaigns have been implemented across several work programs, and their success is already evident. The Campus Tumbler Day event is expected to expand the eco-friendly campaign, specifically reducing plastic bottle waste.
This activity was initiated to continue the #YukPakaiTumbler movement, which has been implemented within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UI, and has received a positive response. It is also hoped that this event will improve the existing campaign to have a greater impact on all student elements within the UI community.
The booth not only involved UI students but also several visitors from outside the UI campus. What piqued the interest of many booth visitors was the unique game, a “human snake ladder” and “water pong”.
Numerous prizes were provided. These prizes were intended to encourage others to live an environmentally friendly lifestyle. Some of the prizes included tumblers, stainless steel straws, lunch boxes, and goodie bags.
A trash can made from plastic bottles, donated by students, was also displayed and used as a demonstration tool to encourage everyone to reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles. Equally important, the committee displayed a bulletin board containing data on the worsening condition of the earth due to plastic waste.
Although many students in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UI are beginning to recognize the dangers of plastic waste, especially plastic bottles, this has not deterred the FMIPA UI Student Executive Board (BEM) from continuing to innovate and promote environmental awareness through creative means.
